NOTES FROM BRITTANY

8/5/08

I'm so happy The Village Barbershop is opening the Rhode Island Film Festival this Wednesday! Congrats to director Chris Ford.

We'll be playing the song, "Long Way Home",  which is featured in the trailer for The Village Barbershop at our show this Friday at the Sweetwater Station.

It's a great movie. I hope you all get a chance to see it.

7/20/08

It's been awhile since I've played solo acoustic, but I'm really looking forward to it. I'm considering throwing candy to the audience,  so if you have a sweet tooth....I'm opening for two very talented singer songwriters, Meiko and Mandi Perkins. I'll be starting my set at the Red Devil Lounge at 8pm.

7/17/08

Opening for Peter Frampton on Tuesday was so much fun. He is the nicest guy. So sweet.

My lap steel/guitar player (Michael Papenburg) and I had a great time playing the opening set. It was light out when we played, but it still felt like a rock show.

Peter played a great cover of Chris Cornell's song, "Black Hole Sun". It rocked.

7/12/08

I'm so excited to be opening for Peter Frampton on Tuesday, July 15th at the Mountain Winery. I'll be playing the show with my guitar player/ lap steel player Michael Papenburg. The Mountain Winery is a beautiful place to see a show, so I hope you all can come out to see this one!

You can get your tickets HERE

7/11/2008

We posted a live version of my song "Pretty Sky" which was shot for a Comcast On Demand television show.  Click here to see it!

6/4/2008

Turn your radio loud!

The lead off track, "One Station" on my new CD  will be played by Ben Fong-Torres on KFRC 106.9FM on Sunday on June 15th (Fathers Day) at 7:30 a.m. AND p.m. local time.

It will stream online at www.kfrc.com, live!

5/23/2008

We are going to have a blast at the Marin Brewing Company tonight! We get to play three sets, so we'll
dig up some oldies and rarities for you!

All ages and FREE!

Also, check out the Oxygen Network.  My song "Pretty Sky" is featured in an episode of
"Bad Girls Club 2".  And that's gotta be a good thing!

5/13/2008

What a night we had at the Cafe du Nord!  Thanks to everyone who showed up.  Hope the t-shirts fit!

We'll be selling our fabulous t-shirts (hand-made by the great Aaron Levi) at the Fillmore tonight and at the Uncorked! Wine Festival this Saturday down on Beach Street in San Francisco at Ghirardelli Square.  We'll be playing two full sets on Saturday, so rock on down for some rarities as well as all the new songs!

Here are some shots from Cafe du Nord.  BIG thanks to our friend, writer Ben Fong-Torres for coming down and giving us an introduction.

Photos below by Jennifer McKay

5/3/2008

We are psyched to rock the Cafe du Nord this Thursday...hope you bought your tickets in advance!  It's going to be a great night.  The CDs look great and I can't wait to show them off.

We played a benefit last night for the Marin Music Museum.  Huey Lewis wasn't there, but was an honor to be introduced by our friend Ben Fong-Torres.  We rocked Mill Valley!

We were also featured on Comcast On-Demand Battle of the Bands.  I don't know if we won or not, but I did post a clip of "Pretty Sky".  Hope you dig!

4/18/2008

It's starting to feel like summer!  The CD is almost done and we are starting to book some great gigs...out of doors...around the Bay.  Check my shows page for more information.  And don't forget the CD release party on May 8 at Cafe du Nord!

4/9/2008

I just posted some new pix that Terri Nelles took recently.  We used a couple from this session

for the new CD design.  I should have the finished CDs in hand soon!  What next?  Vinyl?  Music videos?

The toppermost of the poppermost?

Only time will tell...

4/7/2008

If you have Comcast, check out Comcast-on-Demand and look for Battle of The Bands.  While it
wasn't exactly a "battle" per se, it was a fun, 4-camera shoot at the Sweetwater Station a few weeks ago,
and we had a great time playing live for the live audience, as well as for the folks at home.  Check us out on the TV!!

4/4/2008

Welcome to my newly designed site!  When you see the new CD, "Have Heart Live Young" the new design will make sense!  The CD will be released May 8 at my release party at Cafe du Nord.

3/25/2008

My new CD will be done in time for the CD Release Party, thank goodness!!

Save The Date:  May 8 at Cafe du Nord in San Francisco!  Details are HERE!!!

We are excited about the show, and plus we get to play with Odessa Chen and Recliner that night.

Get your tickets now!

On a related note, I've formed my own record label to help distribute and license my music.

We are calling it Painted Lady Records.  Look out, big guys.  We have a business license

and EVERYTHING!  So, yes, I am signed!  To Painted Lady Records!

3/14/2008

The Village Barbershop, the new independent movie that I have 6 songs in, is making it's rounds in the festivals and doing really well! The music soundtrack will be available only at the screenings.

But I've posted a couple of new songs!  One is from the film and one is from my new CD!

Cinequest Film Festival - February 28 - Won Audience Favorite Award out of 200 movies!

Sonoma Valley Film Festival, April 11-13

Newport Beach Film Festival, April 24 - May 1

3/1/2008

I have six songs featured in the independent film The Village Barbershop, which had its world premiere last night at the Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose.  We had a great time at the premiere, and played a short set at the party afterwards.

Here are some pix of the bash!

Mixes are done!  I'll post some more pix soon of the session. They sound amazing.  Mastering in NYC and then duplication.  Big fun.

We play the Make-Out Room in San Francisco tonight.  Luckily not EVERYONE watches the Oscars!

See you in the Mission!

2/17/2008

We started mixing today!

Zack Smith is concentrating!

He's our producer and arranger.

Here is Joe Chiccarelli, hard at work.

This is all we ever see of him!

The Village Barbershop screening update:

The 2/29 screening is SOLD OUT!  Thank you!!!  This will be a great evening!

Please check the Cinequest website for additional screening times!

2/12/2008

In addition to The Village Barbershop premiere on 2/29, we are playing at The MakeOut Room in San Francisco on Feb. 24.  This is an 8pm show, so there are no excuses!!  Come check us out.  We have a new set which features several new songs that will be on my new CD.

Speaking of the CD, I am going to Los Angeles this Sunday with my producer to mix the new songs with our engineer, the fabulous Joe Chiccarelli (who just won a Grammy for his work on the newest White Stripes CD).  So hopefully by April, we'll all have new CDs in our hands.

Again, I had some great people play on this new CD.  In addition to my amazing touring band, Rami Jaffee from the Foo Fighters played keyboards, Jessy Greene played cello (also a Foo--did you catch their callout on the Grammys?), Michael Lockwood played guitars and some bass...the whole list will be on the CD and on this website soon!

1/31/2008

The Village Barbershop is a film by San Francisco-based director/writer Chris Ford, and it is making its

world premiere at the Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose on Friday, Feb. 29.

Six of my songs are featured in the film.  I've seen it, and I must say, it's GREAT.  Come to the film festival if you can.  It stars John Ratzenberger, who played Cliff on Cheers!!!

1/16/2008

I'm starting to book some gigs for 2008!  Happy to be back at The Fillmore, this time supporting Sara Bareilles.  More info is here!

1/8/2007

Happy New Year!  OK, I'm a little late.  I had a birthday and I'm still recovering.  Whew!  Par-tee, man!!

Actually, recording vocals for this CD has been taking quite a bit of time.  Plus I've written two new songs last-minute which I think are going to make the cut.  Hopefully we'll be mixing in late January.  I have a photo session this weekend and I'm really excited about how it's all turning out!!

Stay tuned and I'll post some mixes when we get a little closer to finishing!

12/23/2007

Happy Holidays, everyone!

I had planned to take a week off from bloggin' and singin',  but we just got a couple of pieces of news which I wanted to share.

We're playing San Francisco's Make-Out Room next Sunday with a couple of other great songwriters on the bill.  As all professional partiers know, the night BEFORE New Year's Eve is THE night to party in San Francisco.  Parking is easy and it should be pretty darn simple to get a cocktail.  Click here for details.

And secondly, I've got about six of my songs featured in an independent film which is starting to make the film festival rounds.  Keep an eye out for The Village Barbershop, written and directed by local filmmaker Chris Ford.  So far, it's been accepted at Cinequest 18, a film festival in San Jose.  Stay tuned here for more details.  It's a great movie, so if you get the opportunity you should go see it!

12/13/2007

There is a member of our band who really doesn't get a lot of credit, or many photos on this website, but he comes to most rehearsals and when he's not gnawing on an old tennis ball, he really is our biggest cheerleader.

His name is Fido.  Really.

And he says Merry Christmas to you all!

12/11/2007

Happy Holidays!!!

We just got back from a few days in New York City.  I think we just beat the bad weather...and our recording sessions are continuing, off and on, through the end of the year.  But just for fun, here is a Christmas track we recorded a couple of  years ago with our friend Andy Peters.  Yes, this is the Kid-Friendly Version!

Jingle Bell Rock

11/15/2007

My recording sessions on the new CD are keeping me busy!!  There may not be a lot of live dates for the next few weeks as we are working hard getting the tracks ready to be mixed by the end of the year!  (Rami Jaffee from Foo Fighters has been laying down some KILLER keys!!)

Here's a link to my KFOG Podcast that I recorded with Renee Richardson a few weeks ago.  (Bob thought it was pretty funny--you'll see why!)

The holidays are nearly upon us...maybe we'll record a holiday tune or two for the website soon....any requests??

10/29/2007

We've begun recording my new CD in earnest!  The arrangements are really changing and evolving as we move through the process.  You are going to be very surprised when you hear it, I think!

I'm also excited to play at The Fillmore's Poster Room with Suzanne Vega on Nov. 12.  Check my shows page for more details.

10/8/2007

We are playing a benefit concert this weekend in Mill Valley, CA for the Breast Cancer Fund, an organization which focuses on environmental causes of breast cancer.  Please check my shows page for more information.

9/25/2007

We've begun recording songs for a new CD!

Bob and the band and I recorded about 10 demos in our little home studio and our producer, Zack Smith is beginning to make plans to finalize them into what will become our next release.  We have lined up some additional musicians (Rami Jaffee from the Foo Fighters and Michael Lockwood are on board again!) and we hope to get it mixed by the end of the year!

In the meantime, we have two great shows planned for this weekend, with Megan Slankard and Glider.  Megan is a great songwriter and we're happy to play with her.  Glider features David Immergluck and Jim Bogios from Counting Crows, and their music is rockin' instrumental Meters-style New Orleans funky rock.  They are killer.  Get your tickets in advance--these shows are hot man.

Here we are doing a little demo-ing (pan down! pan down!):

9/18/2007

The band and I are headed to LA!

When I lived there (for about 10 months in 2003-2004) we played all over, but at that time The Mint was closed for some reason.  So we're psyched to get to rock that room.

Hope to see you southlanders at the show!

9/5/2007

Big thank-you to KFOG radio for putting me on their Local Scene page!  It means a lot to have local radio on your side--and it doesn't happen too frequently.  That is part of the struggle of the unsigned artist and we fight the fight every day to get heard.  So thank you, KFOG, I really appreciate it.  Here's the link.

On the recording front, I have finished recording demos of 8 new songs and they are in the hands of my producer, Zack Smith.  We hope to have final tracks in the next couple of months which we'll mix and master into a full-length CD.  In the meantime, we are playing almost weekly in Northern California, and are travelling to LA later this month.  Keep checking back for details and keep your eye on the shows page for up-to-the minute additions!

8/26/2007

We have some cool shows coming up...we'll be playing in Los Angeles at The Mint in September and we're also on the bill with Megan Slankard and Glider for a few Northern California dates.

Glider is a great band which features Jim Bogios and David Immergluck from The Counting Crows--these will be some fun gigs.  Check back for details!

8/3/2007

We played the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, CA the other night, and we had a wonderful time.  The venue is beautiful, and opening for Heart was a thrill, to say the least.  Good people!  Here are a few shots of Michael and myself.

Slim's, Sunday July 22

7/24/07

Looks like August is going to be busy!  The band and I have 8 new songs recorded demo-style and we hope to have those finished by the end of the year.  New CD?!!  Strong possibility!

Also, I'm opening for HEART at the beautiful Mountain Winery in Saratoga, CA, on Aug. 1.  Please click here for more details.

7/23/07

Heartfelt thanks to everyone who came out to Slim's last night.  Big fun playing that stage--and big thanks to our friend David Phillips who sat in on pedal steel guitar.

Becky and Thom Steere, who own the Sweetwater in Mill Valley, have re-opened the Larkspur Cafe Theatre in downtown Larkspur, CA, and have asked us to play this Friday.

So we shall.  Three sets.

All night long, all night long.

We gonna get yo' wang dang doodle, all night long.

7/13/2007

JUST ANNOUNCED!!

My band and I will be playing at Slim's in San Francisco Sunday, July 22.

We are opening for the legendary Chip Taylor

Details will be posted here!  Get your tickets NOW!!!

7/9/2007

The show in Madison was great!  Bob was able to fly out for it, and we rocked the King Club with my old pal Jay Iverson on drums.

We'll be back in the midwest this October, and maybe we'll play some more shows.  Stay tuned for details.  And big thanks to Brian Bridgeford for the photos, including the one below:

We've also begun recording demos for the next CD.  I hope to post some rough demos on the site soon.  Here I am digging into some vocals at the studio.  I don't think I broke any windows...

6/25/2007

I'm heading home to Madison, WI next week for the 4th of July holiday.  Very excited to play the

King Club in downtown Madison on July 3 with my old friend Jay Iverson and my brother Dustin Safranek.  These guys played on my first two CDs which I recorded with my uncle John Nelles outside of Chicago a number of years ago.  This will be a great set!

Check out the interview in the Madison Isthmus this Thursday, June 28th at

www.thedailypage.com

6/11/2007

I 'm playing The Fillmore's Poster Room tonight, with The Indigo Girls on the mainstage.  Thanks to 97.3 FM Alice for promoting my part of the show!

5/29/2007

Look out, Fairfax!  Cafe Amsterdam has booked us for a Saturday night in a couple of weeks.  Should be a lot of fun!

I just posted some new band pix, too!  Vote for your favorite Shane-ster!  (Doh!  Sorry, girls...they're ALL married!!!!!)  Book us for your next party.  The safest band in the west!

5/11/2007

OK, I think this is pretty exciting.

We've been asked to play at the Sleep Train Pavilion (formerly Concord Pavilion) next Thursday, supporting Stevie Nicks and Chris Isaak.

Tickets are available here.  Killer triple-bill!!!!!

5/7/2007

Maximum Ink has given us a nice write-up on our new EP!  You can read it on my PRESS page.

This Friday at Pier 23 will be a great night of music, for a great cause.  We hope to see you there.  We hit the stage at 8pm!

5/4/2007

It was GREAT playing the Fillmore Poster Room with Travis the other night.  They have always been and continue to be one of my favorite bands.

This show we are doing on Friday May 11 at Pier 23 is for a really good cause.  We're on the bill with a few other bands--

Wish Inflicted

Bray

The Cons

100% of the funds for this show will go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma society, supporting the fundraising efforts of our friends at Team Cuttler (www.cutoutcancer.org).

There are some fabulous door prizes, including our *TOP PRIZE* of a Telecaster guitar autographed by Counting Crows!  Prizes will be announced the night of the show, just before the last act goes on (must be present to win!)  You'll receive one ticket with each paid admission of $10, and we will accept donations for additional chances to win, at the show.

The music gets underway at 8pm on Friday, May 11th (doors at 7pm) so get there early to catch all the fun.

4/23/2007

Bill Picture at the San Francisco Chronicle mentioned my song that was on the Oxygen Network's "Bad Girls Club".  Thanks, Bill!

We are looking forward to playing with Travis at the Fillmore next week!  They are a great band!

4/17/2007

A nice review of my new EP was just posted at losingtoday.com

Go here to read it on my site.

4/9/2007

"Bad Girls Club", a reality show on the Oxygen Network, is using my song "Are You Available" in the episode that is airing tomorrow, Tuesday April 10!!

The episode is called "A Little Ditty About Steve and DeAnn" and airs at 10pm Eastern and Pacific/9pm Central.

If you can't watch the whole episode, don't miss the first five or six minutes (that's a hint!).

You can hear my song here!

3/29/07

We just added a show at San Francisco's Red Devil Lounge.  The Red Devil has recently become a REALLY fun club--they book great bands and we're happy to support onebrick.org with their fundraiser that evening.  Hope to see you there!

3/28/07

Bob is happy.

Bob gets to play guitar in my band again.

I chained him to a keyboard for awhile and I played electric guitar but it sounded BETTER with both he and Michael Papenburg on guitars.  So I'm back to playing the Martin D-28, Michael is on the amazing lap steel and Telecaster, and Bob is playing his Casino.

Just added another Fillmore Poster Room gig with Travis in early May.  Love those guys.

There are some other pix and fun stuff on my myspace site, if you want to have a look.

Good times.  Be a friend.

3/23/07

It's finally feeling like spring!  Nothing like warm weather and a tasty bar-b-que to get you in a happy mood!

The band and I are working on some new songs that I've just written, as well as a couple of fun covers.  With any luck, we'll hit the studio this summer to track them!  In the meantime, we'll add them to our setlists.

The Sweetwater and Utah shows went well.  Crazy light show at the Utah!  Loved it.

More to come!

3/10/07

Big week of shows this week...Tuesday at the Hotel Utah, and Thursday at Sweetwater in Mill Valley.  We hope to see you all at one or both gigs!

2/26/07

Our Hotel Utah gig is going to be a fun night!  We play in the second position, and Queen Anne's Revenge is opening!  After we play, we'll clear the stage for a dance troupe to do their thing.  Come early, stay late!

We dig the Utah.

2/22/07

My new EP was mixed by Joe Chiccarelli, who is best known as a producer...he just produced the new Shins CD and is currently working with The White Stripes in Nashville!  Sure glad he likes San Francisco...I'm planning to be back in the studio sometime later this year.  Looks like a busy spring for myself and the band, so change your strings and tighten your heads, boyz!!

2/14/07

Happy Valentine's Day!

We've added a couple more gigs onto our March calendar.  Hope to see you up in Marin County and in San Francisco!  I've also added links on my store page so you can either purchase or download my new EP.

2/10/07

Ah, fresh press!  Maximum Ink is the best.  Got a nice little writeup, and it's linked on my press page.

2/8/07

The Cafe du Nord show went really well...thanks to those who came out on a Monday night, especially to those who were still in mourning that the Bears lost...

I was honored to be interviewed at the venue by the great rock writer Ben Fong-Torres.  He has a cool new website and you can hear my interview, and a lot more here.

Here's a quick shot of the gig:

(the mighty Ted O'Connell on the big, bad P/J bass)

1/27/07

We started booking March, and it looks like there will be a night at the Hotel Utah in our future.  Always a good time over there.

A few years ago,  we made a little homemade music video for one of the songs off my last CD.  I uploaded it to youtube.com.  It's pretty funny to watch now...and my hair was a lot longer.  That was a big challenge with the San Francisco wind...

1/23/07

We just added another show for February, at the Cafe du Nord...one of my favorite venues in San Francisco.  We are opening for our friends The Broken West...pals of ours from Los Angeles.  This is going to be one HOT Monday night, so get your tickets in advance.  This show could sell out!!!

1/22/07

My new EP is available on iTunes!!!  Please search for Brittany Shane, and you'll find it!!

We plan to record 5 or 6 more songs later this year to make this a complete release,  but in the meantime we decided to make the EP version available.  So download, and enjoy...and let me know what you think.

There is a very good chance that you may hear one or two of these new songs on a TV show in the near future...

1/12/07

We love playing the Fillmore, even the Poster Room, and the gig the other night went great.

We just added another Poster Room date for February, supporting Big Head Todd and The Monsters.  Should be a fun night!

1/8/07

We just had a gig added for this Wednesday, the 10th of January.

The Fillmore Poster Room, where we love to play.  We're supporting Augustana, so please come on out.  More details on my SHOWS page.

1/5/07

Happy New Year, and thanks to everyone for all the birthday wishes!  It was a good one...

The band and I are about to start rehearsals for more live shows, so keep checking the schedule.  I'm still doing my own booking, and it's a lot of work!  Starting to line a few things up now.

AND...a big THANK YOU goes out to KUSF and Just Another Menace Sunday AS WELL AS www.radioiocountry.com

Both stations played my new song "New Year's Eve" on 12/31/06 and I really appreciate it!

12/30/06

A red Gibson SG Jr, for those of you keeping track!  It's a great guitar!!!

Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays.

Stay warm and safe.

By the way, KUSF-FM in San Francisco will premiere my new song "New Year's Eve" tomorrow between 4-6pm PST.  Listen to Just Another Menace Sunday every week--it's a great show!  www.menaceattic.com

12/23/06

I'm pretty sure it is a red Gibson.

You know, I played Rickenbackers and a telecaster for quite awhile but there is really nothing like the sound of a good old p-90 pickup in an SG guitar.  I've been playing Bob's old beat up '65 SG Jr but the neck on that one is huge...so perhaps my new red one will be more Britt-friendly!

Still love my Rickenbacker, though!

12/22/06

Can you believe it's almost Christmas already?  I think I see what may be a guitar under the tree already.  Sure hope it's a red Gibson.

Our Apple Store gig went well...a lot of shoppers took a pause and came upstairs to watch our set.  I'm VERY pleased with the new band...these guys are amazing!!

Happy Holidays, everyone.  Keep rockin'!

12/21/06

Welcome to my new Notes page.  I'll try my best to keep you posted here on what is going with my music and my band, so check back often.
